Community Service Apparel: Fashion as an Art Form

A person’s fashion is a way showing their individuality. Like a personal canvas, you can be painted and decorated to show your true personality; who you truly are or who you want to be. No one believes in this idea more than Ian Kleinman and Richard Langdon, the founders of CommUnity Service Apparel located in Englewood, CO.

Decorated in street art graffiti and equipped with its own art gallery, CommUnity Service successfully brings a new light to a style and fashion that is often overlooked. By featuring artists in the gallery and the walls of the store they showcase what street art really is. Just that… Art! “We came from a really corporate shop and that’s not what we want to be. We wanted to break out of the mall mentality and act as a service to the community, “says Richard Langdon. “So we will ask kids that come in what kind of stuff they want to see here. Then if something we have isn’t selling we can mark it down, and invest what we make into a new brand or product,” proving that in a world of corporate ideas of making money, that local business will be there to cater to what it is that YOU want to wear and see.

When it comes to the clothing they sell, they are all about exclusivity. Everything in the store is original, and is perfect for anyone wanting to stand out from the crowd. “Everything we carry is either a local designer that we have an exclusive contract with or that is not readily available in Colorado, so we have it shipped in,” Says Ian Klienman, “The companies will come and check us out to see if we will properly represent their brand, and if we sign with them, we get an exclusive contract.” For example, Crooks and Castles was the first brand that gave them a chance, a company based out of Hollywood and virtually unavailable to the Colorado consumer. They also have an exclusive contract with Grow Project; a local company featuring a new graphic of our very own Capital Building in Denver. Why so exclusive? “The people who come in and shop here know what they want and they know their brands. They don’t want to wear something from last season, or that they saw on someone else.” Large graphics, high end, but also durable is what they are all about, and expanding what they carry to fulfill EVERY need for EVERY person that shops there. “We are the middle hitch. We don’t carry what your parents wear, but the older generations come in and appreciate what it is we do.”
