Making the most of your closet with accessories by Tyes by Tara

by Andrea Mérida, Denver Fashion Beat Editor

Accessorizing can be one of the hardest things to master when completing a look.  Which handbag?  Which belt?  Which shoes?  The ability to easily pull together a complete look is a skill that escapes most of us.  But not anymore.  Denver Fashion Beat has discovered Tyes by Tara, a local accessory company that helps the fashion-conscious but fashion-atrophied instantly transform the look of their outfit with the simple addition of a tie…instant panache!

An elegant look for evening

An elegant look for evening

Tyes by Tara is the brainchild of Tara Stravinsky, MBA.  After working in the retail industry to support her educational ambitions, she realized that sometimes all that’s needed to finish the look of a great garment is a simple but well chosen accessory to make a stunning transformation.  She came up with her version of the tie as a woman’s accessory, with a tie for every personality and accessorizing goal.  But can a tie really spice up a look?  Our style correspondent, Araceli Lerma, decided to test her theory and come up with a few looks of our own.  We were pleasantly surprised!

Looking simply elegant

Araceli put together a basic, aqua-blue spaghetti-strap dress and decided to put two of Tara’s ties together.  Look how easily Araceli was able to change the vibe of the dress, just by changing the ties!

In the first look, Araceli is ready for a romantic evening with the Aristocrat Scarftye in black from the Boulevard Collection.  Because the scarftye knot it adjustable, you can create a soft look like this by simply sliding the knot to wherever looks the best on you.  We suggest wearing it a bit lower for bustier girls, and right on the collarbone to amplify a less generous bust.

In the second look, Araceli is ready for weekend daytime elegance, perhaps to a bridal shower or even a brunch with the girls.  Wearing the same simple dress, she’s using the Star & 10th Crosstye in black polka dot, made out of a comfortable 100% cotton with an easy Velcro© closure.  We love this retro but stylish look!

Looking sharp but feminine at the office

Araceli shows us some great ways to pair together a basic jacket, camisole and leather skirt ensemble with some of Tara’s more buttoned-down ties.

The first option is with Tara’s “Like a Virgin Necktye” in black lace over cotton with satin ribbon.  We recommend this shorter length for those of you that are less ample busted because it draws attention closer to the face.  Look at the attention this simple skirt and jacket combo gets just with the addition of this wonderfully feminine acessory.

Another way to change up the same ensemble is by using Tara’s elegant Pacha Necktye in 100% cotton.  We love the length of this tie, because it helps those with a more ample bustline but a shorter stature elongate their frame.  The black satin ribbon ties at the back of the neck for a completely adjustable and comfortable fit.  Look how this tie completely transforms the simple garment, bringing it to a new and more official-but-feminine level.

Yet another, cute option is to use Tara’s Heart Bowtye with the same ensemble, which adds a note of whimsy to an otherwise nondescript outfit.  What a fabulous alternative to a ho-hum necklace!  We think this is a great way to enhance a slender neck.  It’s made of soft cotton with a red lace overlay and ties with satin ribbon behind the neck.

The simple elegance of the long tie

Here we’ve complemented the same outfit with Tara’s Geneva Necktye.  Look at how chic the pattern of the Geneva looks against this solid monochrome outfit.  We love how it drapes to the waistline, with a satin choker-like effect around the neck.  The prettiness of the print softens this otherwise severe ensemble, making it totally feminine.

For the night

Add instant drama to a simple dress

Now here’s a night-time look that’s completely wild!  Araceli chose this simple black dress and a pair of great shoes.  It’s exciting enough, but then she turned up the wattage by adding Tara’s Isabelle Collartye in this feral leopard print fabric.  We love how with adding just a simple accessory like this makes all the difference in this otherwise nondescript outfit.

Tyes by Tara are available at some of Denver’s most exclusive boutiques, including Stella B’s in Arvada and Irresistibles in Castle Rock.  But for those of you outside of the Metro area, you can order online at www.tyesbytara.com.  With price ranges from $16 to $36, there is something for everyone.  Visit Tyes by Tara today!
