Vintage-inspired freshness marks Wells’ Spring 2009 Line
by Juliana Echavarría, Fashion Correspondent – juliana@dfbeat.com
The verdict is in for Fallene Wells, creator of the annual fashion event Forever Darling and designer since the age of 13 and designer of her own recognized Denver based fashion line – Let Em Have It Spring 2009 Collection – it is fabulous! As an aficionada of camping, hiking, and traveling, Wells enjoys incorporating elements from nature and art from past eras into her designs. “I am moved by the different textures in nature and try to make art inspired by its elements as much as I can,” said Fallene as she explained her Spring ‘09 collection during a fast-paced and intriguing interview.
Her clientele will tell you “she makes you feel good in her clothes; she makes you walk with a different step, with confidence.” Luckily for all of us Denver fashionistas craving unique and comfortable-yet-edgy fashion pieces, Fallene has produced just that for her Spring 2009 collection. Inspired by the old black-and-white movies of the 1940s, Wells made this collection entirely black and white. However, this collection is not somber by any means; her happy and relaxed attitude is reflected through every piece. With an indescribable passion, one worthy only of a designer with a very bright future, Wells passionately explains her color choices, “I introduced brighter colors and a lot of blue colors with the blacks and whites because I wanted to put a twist on the collection; I wanted to give certain pieces an edge.”
The most exciting and fabulous part about Fallene’s new collection is the fact that she introduced a lot more luxurious fabrics than she ever has in any of her previous collections. Women who like to dress up every day and feel secure in the fact that they are wearing comfortable, splendid clothes will be able to find just that in the lush satins and silks of this collection.

Cowl-neck halter dress
Wells’ designs transcend age differences. Women from their late 20s all the way up to their 40s and beyond can find classic, original, wearable pieces in her collections. “This season I wanted to offer my clientele everyday pieces that were flattering and edgy at the same time,” explained Wells. She did more than that. She accomplished the difficult job of creating pieces that are conservative enough to wear during the day but that complemented with the right accessories at night are transformed into stylish happy hour/late-night partying fashion statements. Women have a wide diversity of pieces to choose from – from pants to A-line skirts and dresses; there is a little bit of every thing for each body type.
Staying on top of trends for spring, Wells has designed halter and one-shoulder dresses cinched at the waist with very thin belts – our favorite new accessory for spring and fall. As seen recently worn by Victoria Beckham and on many of the runways showcasing Spring and Fall collections, wearing a thin belt over your dresses and sweaters is one of the easiest ways to refine your outfit. Women will be able to choose from a variety of classy simple dresses to wear to the office. A gorgeous simple over-the-knee black dress with a shoulder to shoulder horizontal neck line slightly reveals one’s neckline, turning up a notch the sexy factor while keeping it classy with a cinched waist and three-quarter sleeves that slim down one’s arms. This dress is also available in a checkered semi-beige-medium green version.
One of the best pieces from this collection is a cowl-neck style halter dress cinched at the waist imprinted with exotic black flowers and a fabulous black trim at the bottom that contrasts with your skin color or colored tights. This dress is perfect for work when accessorized with a cashmere sweater, a structured bag, and a pearl bracelet. It is also the perfect dress to wear out on a date or while having drinks with friends because the cinched waist in the front side accentuates one’s shape, and the fabric plunges in the backside to completely expose the upper back, adding the always desirable element of surprise to your outfit. Denver fashionistas can also choose from A-style dark denim and black-and-white striped mini-dresses with sweetheart necklines to wear during warmer days in spring and summer.

Fallene Wells does not only create art with clothes; she provides a comprehensive new look for fashionistas all over Denver – from head to toe. Besides being an amazing designer, Wells is also a great hair stylist. You can set an appointment with Fallene to get a great new hairstyle to go along with your fabulous Let Em Have It wardrobe.
In addition, Wells gives back every year to the community through her annual Forever Darling fashion show which is designed to promote local designers, artists, and businesses while helping non-profit organizations with a portion of the event’s proceeds. Both Dress for Success and Animal Rescue and Adoption Society have benefited from this event in the past few years. This year the recipient of the profits will be Autism Speaks – an organization dedicated to funding global biomedical research into the causes, prevention, treatments, and cure for autism, raising public awareness about autism and its effects on individuals, families, and society, and bringing hope to all who deal with the hardships of this disorder. “It’s going to be great. I’m very excited,” thrilled Fallene when I shifted the conversation to the Forever Darling event.
This year, Forever Darling is taking a stance against climate change by incorporating biodegradable and recycled materials into every aspect of the event. In addition, Forever Darling will provide exposure to more local designers and artists than it has throughout the past years. Over 20 designers – nine featured designers in the runway and the rest exhibiting their collections in the market section – will be displaying their wonderful creations for the entire Denver community to see. There will be a competition among all of the Avant-garde designers; this competition consists in each of the avant-garde designers creating a dress inspired solely by a fresh flower arrangement.
